Your Family's Experience of Mental Health Support
Tell us about your Family's experience of Mental Health support Services in Southend-on-Sea.
Supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people with SEND can be a complex journey. Every family experiences that journey differently, and we want to hear about yours.
As your Parent Carer Forum, one of our current priorities is to better understand the experiences of local families when accessing mental health support. By gathering your feedback, we can help ensure that the voices of parent carers are heard and used to influence and improve services.
Mental Health Support Is a Journey
Many families assume that CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) is the first step when concerns arise. In reality, CAMHS is often just one part of a wider pathway of support.
Before reaching CAMHS, or alongside CAMHS support, your child or young person may receive help from:
- School pastoral teams
- Emotional Learning Support Assistants (ELSAs)
- Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in schools
- Early Help services
- Voluntary or community organisations
- Other specialist services
We know that some families receive support that makes a real difference, while others may struggle to access the help they need or feel that more support is required.
We Want to Hear From You
We would like to know:
- Which mental health services has your child or young person accessed?
- How was your experience?
- Did the support meet your family's needs?
- What worked well?
- Was there anything that could have been better?
- Did you need additional support?
- Were there any barriers to accessing help?
- What changes would you like to see locally?
Whether your experience has been positive, challenging, or somewhere in between, your feedback is valuable.
By sharing your experiences, you can help shape future discussions with local services and contribute to improving support for children and young people with SEND and their families.
